Default BYU to play Florida Atlantic in the LV Bowl?

This is according to HBArnett.

A perfect storm could occur:

1. BYU is the outright champion.
2. Two Pac-10 teams go BCS (very possible)
3. Only 5 teams from the Pac-10 bowl eligible

Rose Bowl #1
Holiday Bowl #2
Sun Bowl #3
Emerald Bowl #4
Las Vegas Bowl #5
Bell Helicoper #6

So if you have BCS #2, then LV Bowl drops to #6.

I think it is fairly likely based on a quick glance at the Pac-10 standings that 6 teams end up bowl eligible, since you have 6 teams with 5 wins already. Is there one that would be projected not to win another game.

Quote:
Arizona State 5-0 8-0
Oregon 4-1 7-1
UCLA 4-1 5-3
USC 3-2 6-2
Oregon State 3-2 5-3
California 2-3 5-3
Stanford 2-4 3-5
Arizona 2-4 3-6
Washington State 1-4 3-5
Washington 0-5 2-6
Anyway, HB Arnett says it is possible we have to play Sun Belt #2. That would be unbelievably terrible.

He says it is also possible that LV Bowl will pass on BYU if not outright champion, and that Poinsettia bowl would be thrilled to pair us against Navy, in the 30 year anniversary of the very same inaugural Holiday Bowl matchup.

HB sometimes comes up with a disaster scenario. I love the man.

Oregon states defensive front would give us fits.

Whatever. We'd do to them what we did to their cousins last year.

there are a couple of BCS leagues that may have more qualified teams than bowls. I doubt the LV Bowl could only get the worst possible team out there.

Number 1 in rushing defense giving up a 54.5 yards per game and a whopping 1.63 yards per carry.

Number 1 in sacks averaging 4.25 per game

Number 8 in tackles for loss with 70 total this year.

Number 13 in total defense.

I think they have a less than stellar offense and an average secondary but upfront defensively they will give us fits.

I'd say that you just shut down any argument against Oregon State's defensive front.

Cincinnati doesn't seem to have had much trouble.

Cincinatti vs Oregon State

33 carries for 30 yards.
229 total yards
6 sacks

the difference in the game was Oregon State turned it over 7 times. So like I said their defensive front is very good.

Let me add that at that time they were still playing the 2 qb system, since the loss to UCLA they have settled on a qb and he only has 1 pick in his last 3 games, all wins.

and if they are that good now they will keep winning and play themselves out of the LV bowl. Chances are the LV Bowl won't even have the chance to pick them anyway. If the PAC 10 has 2 BCS teams (which appears likely right now), then there might not be any bowl eligible left for the LV Bowl when it's their turn to pick someone.
