Default Suggestions for a fourteen year old child

are encouraged and needed. However, one of the pre requisites are that it must be from a minority author.

The child is intelligent and can read mature themes, but I don't have any great ideas. I usually don't focus upon the ethnicity of the author. For example, he has Crime and Punishment, but that is notconsidered a disadvantaged minority or ethnic group.

I think I first read that when I was about 14. It really left an impression on me.

I don't know if Invisible Man would be to mature for him or not.

Can it be by a Chinese or Japanese author?

He can relate to Asian culture better than he can AA or Latin culture, which is precisely why he maybe should read something about AA or Latin culture. I like the Invisible Man suggestion as he would find that one fascinating.

We will try but this teacher may only wish disadvantaged minorities and Asians aren't viewed as disadvantaged.

I'm pulling for the Asian authors as I usually read what he reads to be able to critique his work.

He is accustomed to mature themes but doesn't catch everything.

That's a good choice.
