Default If you were to face Church discipline...

how would you handle it?

Assume that a bishop is threatening to excommunicate you over something you posted on CougarGuard or a letter to the editor. How would you handle the situation?

It would all depend on how I felt about my membership. If I cared i would be there and if I didn't I wouldn't.

I'm under the impression that if someone asks to have his/her name removed from the records, it's more difficult to "rejoin" the Church later than it is after excommunication, but I could be wrong.

I'd love to see anything I've said on CG be used for a disciplinary council.

Right, because you're such a stud that you never say anything original enough to be used against you.

I don't make up stories, if that's what you mean.

You win. Great comeback.

Truth is stranger than fiction, which is why you doubt me. Have I messed up a time or two or mischaracterized some things? Sure. I admit it. Does that make me a liar? No. I've been sloppy before, but the vast majority of my statements have been accurate. If I was ever inaccurate, it was unintentional.

The difference between me and you is that it comforts you to have everything plainly laid out for you by authoritative figures. I can understand that. You don't want to accept many of the complexities and mysteries of life. You need life to be simple. God has a prophet, and God speaks to that prophet, and the prophet will never lead you astray.

When prophets don't agree with each other, it seems to me that you assume that this is due to the incomprehensible complexity of God Himself. (Correct me if I'm wrong.)

When you think about gay people and how they could fit in among God's creations, you assume that homosexuality is their choice instead of looking at the facts.

I get the feeling that you just don't want to synthesize facts if a conclusion won't conform with your comfortable worldview. The fundamental problem is that you either lack the ability to judge and analyze good data, or you refuse to analyze data. I think you're smart, so I think you just refuse to acknowledge facts that make you uncomfortable. You're a little like Dallin H. Oaks.

Great poll.

I voted other. Explanation: I'd ignore it.

That may be the nicest thing anyone has ever said to me. Thanks!

I would discuss it and explain how an anonymous posting should be allowed. My negotiation skills are pretty darn good. A wager that no penalty would be assessed.
