Woman as Sunday School president
I've mentioned this before, but my dad was in a Bishopric. And they called a woman to be Sunday School president. This went along quite well until many months later they were informed, or came to realize, that it is against church policy to have women in a Sunday school presidency. They thanked her for her service and released her.
The thing is, I know from what my Father has said about his Bishopric, that they were truly prayerful about their callings. All their callings. They must have felt inspired to call her. |

The inspiration allowed a situation to arise where they could be afforded a valuable learning experience.

In 1973, the Salzburg Austria branch I served in featured a young, very attractive single woman as Sunday School Superintendent. Perhaps someday she'll be venerated as a kind of Elijah Able for future female GA's, and provide justification for their eventual callings.

I personally believe that the Lord inspires Bishops all across the world to go against church policies and procedures, in certain situations. And I thank the Lord for a church with Bishops that follow the Spirit when it directs.

I was Sunday School President in a BYU single's ward (I loved that calling). I tried to convince the Bishop that I should be able to call a female to be a counselor. I never convinced him, so in the end I didn't call any counselors, and just called a female secretary.

On an interesting side note, I'm pretty sure men aren't allowed to serve in the Primary Presidency.

not sure why.
you might as well have a burlap bag full of russets to be the SS president. Nobody would notice.

What exactly does a SS president do other than roam the halls and ring the bell? I think I would like that calling. Too bad I am a woman.

They must always have a lesson appropriate ready for that weekend for the three or four teachers who fail to appear but fail to get substitutes. It's the second counselor who gets to ring the bell.
