Default High Priest Group today

We had a lawyer teach JS's stuff on intelligences, and it became quite animated, one member leaving the room he was so upset.

The instructor postulated for discussion purposes that God never created the intelligences but that they always were, God merely made them self-aware. For some this was too much.

I merely said, "Adam awake."

Sounds like you have some Baptists in your HP Quorum.

Religion rises inevitably from our apprehension of our own death. To give meaning to meaninglessness is the endless quest of all religion. When death becomes the center of our consciousness, then religion authentically begins. Of all religions that I know, the one that most vehemently and persuasively defies and denies the reality of death is the original Mormonism of the Prophet, Seer and Revelator, Joseph Smith.

Thumbs up

This would have been a perfect time to tell everyone that we don't really believe Eve came from a rib.

I thought that was settled doctrine. God "organized" the intelligences, but they have always existed (JS spiritual version of Newton's law).

But some argued that God created spirit bodies for intelligences whereas the instructor was merely suggesting they already existed in physical form that way but that God made them self-aware, a quickening as it were.

He made the analogy, plants exist but are not aware, animals are aware, and humans are aware that we are aware.

Intelligences merely existed until G
od quickened them.

Interesting. I always thought of it as your instructor suggested. Why would that be so controversial to some? I guess I always thought of it as matter that could never be created or destroyed. Isn't that what JS taught? Matter. Only more refined?

I remember my MP giving a talk once to us about this subject. He listed the divergent thoughts and the church leaders who subscribed to each. Then asked who was right. The missionaries were divided and all over the place on it. Finally our MP said, "Who cares? I don't know and it doesn't matter."
