There is a guy who moved into my ward who is an experienced beekeeper, but his 4 hives died last year.
The son of the YM president just moved into our ward and he is wanting to keep bees (his grandfather did). And my friend who lives in San Antonio is planning to get a hive. I think that beekeeping is soon to be among those trendy things i.e. "stuff that white people like." |

I'd love to, but I suspect after a couple of months we would end up finding some bee rescue organization and handing them over.

At least it wouldn't be like giving up a dog.

trust me, bees are a lot less work. at most you open up the hive once a month while they are active. I'm more like every few weeks. And never during the winter.
Plus in the end it gives you honey and wax (to make candles if you want). |

Let's say your group is stranded in the Sierra Nevadas, what keeps you from eating the dogs before you dig in on the people?
As for bee keeping, I think I could do that. Very low maintenance, they don't slober on you, and generally keep to themselves.
