Cycling sucks.
With the cycling category here and all of the cycling posts I have seen, I decided I would dust off the ol' mountain bike and take a trip to the Pipeline trail in Milcreek canyon a few days ago. I hurt everywhere. When I stay home and watch tv, I wake up the next morning feeling fine. When I go cycling, I hurt. My only conclusion is that biking sucks.

It is going to suck until you are in better shape and your butt is used to the seat. Don't give up. The rewards that cycling offers are great. You need to allow a couple of weeks of steady riding to get the butt in some shape for riding.

Is it normal for one's butt to completely envelope the bicycle seat? And why are bike seats apparently manufactured by the same people that make thongs? Would it kill them to make the seat a little wider? |

How does one have a butt so large it envelops the seat?
Making it wider hurts. Let me explain. As I entered the field of cycling, I borrowed a friend's bike, who happened to be female, with a female, wider seat. It was complete torture. Wider is NOT always better.

You must train the taint. Saddle position, shorts, and saddle design can make a huge difference but there is no substitute for good ol' desensitization...
It's kind of like those karate guys who can break baseball bats with their shins. Your taint must become as an iron sinew.

let me endorse the idea of good cycling shorts. Don't go cheap. I think I use pearl izumi ultrasensors. They are a million times better than the $20 variety.
