1. A tail wind
2. No flats 3. Five guys in a paceline 4. The ride down the other side 5. Plenty of GU and water 6. Slow dogs 7. Smooth roads 8. No traffic 9. Euro racing news while on a ride 10. That completely exhausted feeling when you are done. |

Did someone have a nice ride through the rolling hills of St Anthony ID this morning?
And Gu??? Bleck. I can agree with all the others, but I can't stand Gu. |

Choclolate Gu around mile 20. Yum.
I would also add 42 MPH down Big Cottonwood Canyon to the list. |

I've hit fifty and sixty now consistently down canyons here and in Utah. It makes high forties seem like a cakewalk, whereas those speeds at one time concerned me.

I am pretty nervous above 40 in these canyons. I came out of a steep, sharp turn yesterday just below Storm Mountain and got a flat. It scares me to think what would have happened if I got the flat 30 seconds earlier.

I hit 50 last week on a nice smooth straightaway with no crosswind. I felt very comfortable and in control. The fastest I've gone is 54 and I felt totally out of control on that one. We had a swirling tail/cross wind and I got the speed wobbles something fierce. I vowed that I was done with high speeds.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that I am no speed junkie. I find more satisfaction from a good uphill climb than from a screaming downhill. |
