the 40 million uninsured is the Health care boogey man
Now when I say uninsured I mean people who have no more avenues for insurance.
1. First of all any child 17 and under qualifies for either medicaid or CHIP 2. Most of the uninsured women qualify for Medicaid - a. If they are pregnant b. If they are within 4 times the federal poverty level That takes away at least 1/2 of the uninsured right there. 3. Finding insurance for those who thought they didnt have it... (Cobra, Crime victims, military, Auto, Home etc) 4. Families that have ability to pay but have chosen not to have insurance This leaves about 10 million truly uninsured in this country. These can easily be covered by Charity as many of the faith based health systems missions are to care for the poor. Basically, we don't need universal health care insurance. What we need is to help those that actually qualify for an insurance we already have run through the red tape
