A lot of people won't like this movie, because the pace is very understated. There is no background music and not of lot of dialogue. If I hadn't read the book, I might not have enjoyed it as much. But you have to see the movie for no other reason than to see the performance of Javier Bardem. The casting and performance of Bardem is genius. Not since Anthony Hopkins created Hannibal Lecter has an actor nailed a villain the way Bardem does here. The guy takes a throw-away line like "Call it, friendo" and turns it into something classic and memorable. His character is creepy, but not in a sinister way -- kind of evil but goofy. Knowing the way the Academy loves foreign actors, I'd say that Bardem is a lock to get a best actor nomination.
