Default Went shooting with the scouts today

I haven't fired a weapon since 1989. We've got a new scoutmaster who is very into shooting. He took all the scouts to work on their rifle and shotgun shooting merit badges. The most interesting part of the trip was the fact that it took place at a public shooting range; the free type out on BLM land that is often crawling with rednecks. It certainly was today.

Anyway, that was a lot of fun. So much fun it left me wanting to buy a shotgun. My son fired weapons for the first time in his life today. He hit 6 of 8 clay pigeons on his very first attempt with a shotgun(I hit 2 of 8, weak I know) . I think he's hooked. Sidenote: some rednecks around here have a looser interpretation of gun safety than most reasonable folk. This sparked a heated conversation between one of our instructors and a 20 something year old punk holding an illegal rifle (not sure exactly what it was but he had one of those 50 round clips that you can't have). It was uncomfortable for a moment. Is there a worse place to get into an argument than a gun range?
