Default Bear bag advice

SO if you are out camping in a relatively remote area in which bears are known to live and you have a bunch of food but no trees suitable for a bear bag within 1/2 mile or maybe even more, what do you do with your food? If it is all double bagged in plastic bags is that enough? DO you just walk it far away from your camp site so that at least the bear will casue trouble away from wear you lie unconscious? This is a hike in location, btw, so locking it in the care is not an option.
