if DN is a homer paper, why not hire a homer? it's elementary. I don't see what the big deal is.
if this is the deal-breaker for you, I think you are missing the boat. |

At the same time, show me ANY reputable newspaper that puts someone with a political background like Cannon's as editor of the paper. One example. Thanks in advance.

1) Hiring someone that blatantly political with no experience seems shameless. 2) Cannon follows an outstanding editor in Hughes. Why they would have this guy follow Hughes is beyond me.

I don't have a problem with them hiring an LDS editor or with a policy of not taking on the church. And keep in mind that the previous editor was a non-mormon. The paper has done a decent job in the past with balance. But explain to me why the Des News has to be a homer paper for the Republican Party? Where did that come from?

It doesn't have to be a homer paper for anything. I am not a daily reader of every paper. But the desnews has had omissions, from what I understand, that have been egregious. I.e. they choose not to cover what they don't like.
And I wouldn't want a paper that ignores things it finds embarrassing to its core constitutients. At least this what I hear from people who actually care. |
