So, I went to the zoo today
for a school field trip.
(And by zoo I mean an actual zoo. I have this feeling that the word zoo has some sort of Utah code meaning, but I just mean a regular old zoological park.) Well, they added this 8-acre new "indigenous" exhibit. Showcases all of the animals that were originally around here. With native plants and terrascaping to imitate the various regions of the state. It was gorgeous. I was quite impressed. The zoo people are welcome to landscape my backyard. Only leaving out the black bears and red wolves and such. |

First she goes to church then the zoo. Next she'll be booing ref's as they walk off the court at the MC. Zoo = BYU Zoobie = BYU student |

It pretty much began when Utes and Aggies were way, way totally jealous of how cool, hip and awesome BYU is and they used the terms Zoo and Zoobies as a mechanism to cope with how weak and lame they are. I think that's the universally accepted explanation.

In addition to YOhio's fine analysis, Merriam-Webster contains another entry explaining that BYU is viewed by some as a mere marrying zoo, where the co-eds resemble hippos* who drop out once they receive the almighty diamond, education be damned.
*an alleged recent fitness study notwithstanding. |

Also, if you live in a Zoo, your reality is only perceived by yourself, not to anyone elso who sees you. The Lions in the Savhanna display might think they are in Africa, but everyone else knows they are in the Zoo.
