I'm sure Obama is strengthening oversight, I don't know how far he'll go.

Look at the facts. Half-black Barry from Indonesia is our President--look at his appointments. He is OWNED by the oligarchy.

My point is that such a person would be unlikely to end up as president--but he met the right people, he had skills that could be put to use, he received the right connections, the right money, got into a political machine that had use for him, and in an incredibly short time became the leader of the supposed free world.
If you were one of these naive souls that felt his rise had nothing to do with the oligarchy, you need only look to see who took the reins of power when he became president. Game, set, match. |

Linking this thread to the "south will rise again" thread and Gov. Perry in Texas.
Anyone still doubting that the grass is dead and dry, the rains are a distant memory, the winds are picking up, and it's merely a matter of how much dryer and windier it is going to get when the next lightning bolt strikes the ground. Homeland Security believes this. Look at how their report, absent any empiricism, attacks the right wing was dangerous to the nation, while the NSA illegally monitors U.S. citizens. WAKE UP! |

As for Obama, you say "look at who took the reins of power when he became president." Well, Obama did. He is the one who became president. His cabinet has a diverse background, not the singular oligarchy you want to present. They were all accomplished to be sure, but that is kind of a requirement for the position (perhaps not under Bush, but historically). Clinton: Graduate of Yale Law, former First Lady and Senator from New York Geithner: Former president of the Federal Reserve in New York, lived in East Africa, India, Thailand, China and Japan Gates: Holdover from Bush administration, former president of Texas A&M, former CIA director (worked his way up as career CIA employee) Holder: Appointed by Reagan to DC Superior Court, DC attorney, worked at Justice for years, first African-American AG Salazar: Known Colorado environmentalist, elected to Senate in 2004 Vilsack: Former Iowa governor, attorney Locke: Former governor of Washington, only Chinese-American governor Solis: Former member of the US House, recipient of JFK Profile in Courage Award, first Hispanic woman to serve in cabinet, born in LA to immigrant parents Sebelius: Former Kansas governor, graduate of Kansas University Donovan: Former head of New York Department of Housing Preservation and Development Chu: Nobel Prize winner in physics, professor at Cal Berkley Duncan: Former CEO of Chicago Public Schools Napolitano: Former Governor of Arizona Shinseki: Retired 4 Star General, former Chief of Staff of the Army Yeah, these are bright, capable people. But how are you getting that his adminsitration proves he is beholden to an oligarchy? Many of these people are so far out of the mold of what we have ever seen in a cabinet, it is amusing to hear you decry them as part of some oligarchical machine. |

Geithner was in charge of overseeing Citigroup and let Citi slip through the cracks. And you forgot Obama's main economic man Larry Summers. Summers is buddy-buddy with Bob Rubin (Goldman?). And it was Summers who undid Glass-Steagal while working for Clinton. He was a massive de-regulator. And last but not least, Rahm Immanuel was a billion-dollar investment banker.
