An irrational appeal
that those who speak a second language take the time to enjoy the great work of literature or great works and enjoy them in the mother tongue. It probably is a waste of time to not read the English translation but, what wonderful insights one garners from great insights from the original autograph.
Anybody who has read Hugo in French will know what I mean, or the great German works. The Greek works are just beginning to unfold and the Arabic works are a bit off for me, but simply little insights into the world of the author are closed off if one reads but a translation. Mind you, it's a lot of work for perhaps too little benefit, but for those of you who like me waste the time, I just can't trade the pleasure. I am saddened that I will never learn Russian well enough to read the Great Tolstoy or Dostoevsky. Whenever you care to, read the original.
