Planet Earth Series
For all of you with HD televisions, I strongly suggest you check out the Planet Earth series on Discovery HD. It debuted last week and they have two new episodes tonight. Most expensive documentary/nature series ever filmed. Five years of filming at over $1M per episode. We have watched three episodes so far and they have been fabulous.

Yes, it's amazing. Of course, you won't be able to appreciate it in its fully glory when you view it only DVD quality.

If there is one way to make me not watch a show it's to get it endorsed by Oprah. If Oprah said, "watch the NFL on Sundays, it’s the best." I'd stop watching the NFL forever. Of course, I'm exaggerating for effect. I'll eventually breakdown and watch the show, submitting to the will of the all-powerful Oprah. Yes, yes, I’ll say I’m watching because it’s a good show (other non-basis reviewer will attest to this fact), but deep down I know it will be because of Oprah. |

That reminds me of a few years back when Jonathan Franzen's award-winning novel The Corrections was selected by Oprah as her book of the month. He wasn't too thrilled about it and made some public comments. Oprah was furious and pulled the book. His publisher went nuts because of the revenue that would be lost. I couldn't help but respect the guy. It was a pretty good book, too.

Thanks for ruining it. Anything Oprah likes must be kitsch.
