SoCal recommendations
Well, our Oregon trip is off so we are planning to go to SoCal for a week sometime in August. Our favorite activity is the beach (boogie-boarding). The kids have outgrown Disneyland (Jesus be praised!) and they don't get too excited about any of the other theme parks anymore. So we are looking for some other activities. Any suggestions? Anyone ever done a fishing charter in this area? What about Catalina Island?

How about pushing the trip back a few weeks and attending the BYU vs UCLA game?

Good idea. But the kids would be in school then.

The Getty museum L.A. is totally awesome. I'm not just being an elitist. It is amazing. Also, the LA museum of contemporary art, while you're there, is world class.

Yes, we can't stand Disneyland. But to be good sports for the kids, we tried to hide our contempt and be good soldiers. We went there two years ago and on the way home our youngest said "Mom, Dad. Thanks for taking us again but I don't care if we ever go back." The wife and I were doing high fives. What really baffles me is when adults go there without little kids. I was standing in line with the kids one day at the ride where you drive the little cars around a track and I looked up and down the line and it was mostly adults without kids. I thought, "what the hell are these people thinking?" They can drive REAL cars for crying out loud. And don't get me started about the cheesiness and commercialism. And crappy food.

I've never been snorkeling there, but I'd imagine that's available as well.
