Yo, Indy
so i was reading the trib this morning and i saw a story on a kid named Siligia who just changed his mind from byu to utah.
http://www.sltrib.com/sports/ci_6514747 an interesting quote: "The track record of the Utes sending defensive linemen to the NFL, and the coaching of defensive coordinator Gary Andersen, helped sway Siliga toward the Utes. " Sounds like a reason that is not in the set { "He's stupid", "He can't keep his ding-dong in his pants" } for picking utah over byu. How will you rationalize this against your previous edict?

Siliga has had several interviews where his story keeps changing. At one point, God's telling him to go to BYU. Next, he's reneging on his verbal because he felt pushed to go to BYU. Next, it's because he's not sure about if he can or wants to deal with BYU's higher academic standards. Next, it's because of the fallacy that Andersen/Utah has had more success placing DL in the NFL than BYU.
Bottom line, you can't trust Siliga. |

Thanks.
I knew you'd come through. My rubric adjusted, and my faith is restored.

And praised for skipping a mission (ala steve young, the Osmonds, etc) to proclaim the gospel via the NFL.

71 should be pleased with that article. Nice. Now recruits are cracking on CB crazies in the newspapers.

The kid should go to Utah and quit trying to justify the decision. It's not that interesting. Go play and have fun.

Every time this poor kids opens his mouth though he sticks his foot in it. Either he does or the reporter puts it in there for him. In hind site, he should have told TBS he has a good feeling about the BYU football program and therefor is committing. Later he should have said, I changed my mind and will be attending Utah. We wouldn't have had to get into all the spiritual and character stuff. Well, maybe we would have. It is BYU and Utah after all. |

I can't imagine flipping out over every little thing they say, or decision they make. These are grown men watching football, right?

The only thing about this that bothers me is that Siliga seems to have a hard time communicating a truthful, let alone a consistent response to why he changed his mind.
If he had just said "I like Utah more than BYU" and stuck to it, there wouldn't be anywhere near this kind of backlash. There is no shame in changing your mind. There is no shame in choosing Utah over BYU. There is shame in not having the integrity to tell the truth. P.S. Here's what I had to contribute to the Siliga discussion on Cougarboard: http://www.cougarboard.com/noframes/...ate=&archive=1 Last edited by Indy Coug; 08-01-2007 at 03:53 PM. |
