The Stone Roses
Going through old CDs the other day I came across a Stone Roses CD (their initial release). I think it came out in '89 or '90. What a front runner. So much of the UK-based '90s sound was influences by that release - Oasis, The Verve, Blur, The Charlatans, etc…

I am a fan of The Stone Roses. Great stuff. "Fools Gold" is one of my favorites.
I agree they influenced a number of bands, but I think they were influenced by the early stuff from The Cure, especially "Adored".

I was in Europe when that cd came out (though I was on a mission so I couldn't really listen to it) and I remember them proclaiming themselves better than the Rolling Stones.

It still didn't compare to the ire of Beatles fans when the lead singer of The Blow Monkeys called himself Dr. Robert. Beatles fans really take everything Beatles very seriously.
