An old, out of shape center who hit his prime 5 years ago and you are saddled with $40 million to pay him. Makes zero sense. I would go as far as to say that this is the worst trade in several years.
One of the ESPN guys said it was a direct response to the Lakers getting Gasol. I guess the suns figured that even a past-his-prime center is better than Jake Voskul to go up against Gasol and others in the west.

Seriously, while Shaq 'may' help a team this year, even that is debateable. He is MUCH older than he was when he was traded to the Heat as far as Basketball wise. And while Shaq 'may' be able to get into shape and play, he still has 2 years left on his contract. So I guess if the Suns know that 1) Steve Nash is retiring soon, and 2) Marion and Stoudamire cannot get along in the locker room, then I guess you maybe look at a trade. But is Shaq really the piece that puts you over the top? And are you ready for 2 more years of Shaq at $20 mil per?

I just don't think Phoenix should make the trade, although I'd be happy if they did.
That is what I think. Shaq is way beyond his prime. I don't understand taking on his gigantic contract for 2 years when I don't see how he even contributes this year. This would be a great trade for the Heat.

The ESPN guys are wrong. Shaq is a bad defender and we will NEVER see Shaq guard Gasol. It would never happen. Gasol would score 40 on him. I don't think Shaq has ever guarded Gasol...Amare would guard him. Shaq will guard Bynum, I guess. The Suns figured that they needed to make a move to counter the great move the Lakers did...problem was, this is a real bad move. The Suns could have got some very nice players to trade Marion for and all they got was a 350 pounder that expects over $40 million for 2.25 years of work.

The biggest issue is to have a team that all they have ever done is run, will now have to play a half court offense. I have never heard of a team having to change its entire offense midway thru the year.

I guess I thought that part of what got them bounced the last few years was an inability to play the half court game with San Antonio among others...
