No. I'd really forgotten.

Seattle:
Hillary ran uncontested in Michigan, as the party had requested that all candidates remove their names from the ballot. She was the only one who did not comply. In Florida, the candidates were allowed to run but not campaign. Hillary won in a landslide. There is considerable talk of a re-vote. But even that would generate huge amounts of ill-will toward the party: guess who foots the bill for the second vote?? That's right, your friendly American taxpayers. Those following/supporting the dems have seen this coming for at least six weeks...that the nomination is essentially going to come down to technicalities. The longer it goes on the less likely it seems that there's any chance the Party can come out of this without facing accusations that the nomination was fixed in some kind of back room deal. |

I may not agree with Seattle on everything, but his political sense is generally good. I agree, may blood run thick and often in the streets of the Democratic Party.

Can somebody think of something succinct and eloquent to say about how this was the inevitable result of inherent democratic party excesses and foilbles. It can't just have been bad luck or the doings of a deranged one or powermongering few. They may not blow this yet but they are leaving no stone unturned in making it possible.

Much of the mess is thanks to the Republican-controlled legislatures in Michigan and Florida who moved their primaries back far enough to invite sanction from the DNC.
But the Democratic Party was really asking for this by creating the Superdelegates in 1984. They had to know it would come to this eventually. The whole thing is truly absurd. It makes the BCS look logical, efficient, and effective by comparison. |

The Dems could have taken the Repub route in Florida and Michigan by only allowing half the delgates. Hence a sanction, yet no one can argue that the voters were disenfranchised. The one time Dems go all law and order on us and it bites them in the butt. Superdelegates and overly proportionate representation (I think we can thank Jesse Jackson for that one) have brought this about. I don't see Clinton backing down from this Florida and Michigan thing. That is her best and most sympathetic argument: disenfranchising voters. Arguing strict application of rules that will not count the votes of two very critical states is the perfect storm for Repubs. How will voters in both states feel come GE time if their voices were only heard by one party and it was the nominee (Obama) of the other party that pressed to keep them silent?
