I played the tuba once upon a time. I remember trying out for the area honor band. And while my marks were high, the biggest knock on me was my age. So yes, even at that level there is a low brass community that would frown had I been admitted.

As Realtall mentioned the attrition rate is high, and I succumbed to the pressures of band is no longer cool and football players get the cheerleaders.

Good luck to you, real tall. I hope things work out for you in the manner you want. I've always felt that it's best to do what makes one happy, especially in a career.

The day you make it, we here can remember you when you were another guy on a message board. Hopefully, we won't be forgotten.

I played clarinet for two years in junior high school. I had wanted to play the saxaphone, but my dad had played the clarinet and he still had his old one. I was a very bad clarinet player. My parents went to all the concerts and I never had the heart to tell them that I never actually played in the concerts. I was so terrified of screwing up, that I only faked playing.

Seeing that salary makes me wish I'd stuck with the trombone for more than just that one semester in 6th grade. I wanted to play the sax, too, but it was twice as expensive to rent, so I gave up and devoted my time to RBI Baseball.
