I disagree with you guys on this one. My son (now 12) and I have gone snow cave camping on a few occasions. We of course did not have to make the cave out of necessity and were able to bring all of the nice gear. If you have a nice sleeping mat to put between you and the snow, the night is actually quite tolerable. The last 2 times we went we vented the cave at the ceiling and lit a small candle placed on a shelf we put it. Amazing how much of a difference that made in the temp yet still didn't cause dripping.
Finally, we bring our chocolate lab who sleeps at our feet, (yeah, it's a big cave). I've never felt miserable during these campouts, but as mentioned we've always had the luxury of time, nice gear, and close proximity to our car. |

I discovered the YURT last year on a family vacation up the Oregon coast. Those things are the best. You get the feel of camping without the mess and cleanup. We tried to get one this year as well but they were sold out throughout the state 2 months in advance. Granted, it was on Labor Day, but apparently others have also "discovered" them.
