Hmmmm....I agree that the threat is more real than we realize. I've been conflicted about FISA and the entire wiretapping without a court order situation, but this thread makes it even more conflicted. On one hand, I hate the idea of the Feds being able to tap communications with impunity, though it's probably true that if you're not communicating with people whose intent is to cause harm to this county, you have nothing to worry about; OTH, with today's situations in the world, I can also see the argument that the "get them before they get you" thinking may not be a bad idea.

More than anything, this thread has been a good reminder to me that it's time to kick it up a notch or two with the entire "follow the counsel of the Lord" that I preach to my kids. I look at my parents as prime examples and realize that I need to be more like them.

It makes me wish that I took my time is Boy Scouts a bit more seriously. I didn't live by the "Be Prepared" motto. My motto was "Dad's the Scoutmaster, so the sooner I reach the rank of Eagle, I can get out." And the liberals think the Boy Scouts are bad.

Dang, can you say digression?

Interesting concept. My main question would be, "How is that going to feed everybody?" especially if you are inviting tons of people who have nothing to put in the kitty. It would all run out in about 10 minutes.

I had always thought of the emergency use of food storage as more of an 'ant & grasshopper' kind of situation.

What does your father do for a living, and who does he receive his information from?

My brother has worked Special Forces assignments within the Air Force.

Assignments that he isn't privy to tell us about, and most of the time he won't even admit that he's done anything, but he disappeared after 9/11 for about 4-5 months and no one heard a peep from him.

Upon returning from Krzyzgstan for 6 months and 6 weeks of training in San Antonio, he came home for Christmas and I had a lot of time to spend with him. My brother is not the "gloom and doom" type, but is very practical and matter of fact in how he approaches everything.

Some of what he told me in regards to the kinds of terrorist attacks that have been thwarted on our soil since 9/11 makes my blood run cold. He, like most who are privy to quite a bit of intelligence information believe it's a matter of less than 5 years before a major chemical, biological or dirty bomb attack of somekind is carred out on American soil with scary effectiveness, thus making 9/11 look very tiny in comparison.

I agree. However, our bishop cited the miracle Jesus performed when feeding the thousands. He asked us if we would have that type of faith to be more specific.

If I told you I'd have to kill you.

He worked for several years on a joint anti-terrorism task force with many agencies. I grew up in Los Angeles and I can't tell you the number of times he had to up and leave for LAX because of some threat or threat potential. He has been a part of HRT and CIRG with the FBI. Unfortunately I am not privy even being his first born to most of his details. But he travels the world when duty calls to thwart both domestic and worldwide threats from Waco, to Yemen, to Kosovo.

I just tell most people he works for the government. But the black H2 with blue lights tucked behind a chrome grill parked in the driveway throw most people for a loop.
