I'm not sure about church rules on a non-scouting campout. But even in that case, I wouldn't do it. I tend to get most of my stuff with coupons at REI (reioutlet.com), also sierratradingpost.com. They seem to have 20% coupons all the time. A 2 man backpacking tent will only fit one person. And no gear. |

About halfway between Ogden and Brigham City. Just off I-15 on the west side. Very difficult to miss.

Depends on what you are going to do. If car camping, definitely get the 3 man. If backpacking, get the 2-man.
A 3 man fits my queensize air mattress. One of the cheap Academy dome tents. Get a cheap 3 man, and a quality two-man. Just like you will need two sleeping bags. A winter bag, and a lighter bag, although recently I stay away from sleeping bags at all. I like using sheets and blanket. |

1. Any specific brands of tents and/or sleeping bags to consider / avoid?
2. Regarding MIke's comment on the sleeping bags ... will a 3-season bag be too hot in the summer in Utah?

If you get a lightweight down mummy bag rated to 0 degrees or whatever, you can still use it during the summer, just don't zip it up.

So I pulled a Waters ... Utah must be growing on me
The Texas FM would have gone to REI and boughte the best stuff you coudl get and spent a ton of $.
Today after work I had some RV stuff to return to Camping World. I didn't ahve a receipt so they just gave me store credit so I figured I look around. On the clearance rack: Coleman 4 person dome tent - $27 Coleman sleeping bag rated for 20 degrees and up - $19 Queen size air matteress with rechargable battery operated pump - $36 Given the deals I got on those I picked up a battery operated tent ceiling fan / light for $25 Just over $100 for the whole shooting match. Not bad.

Nice work. Now as obvious as this may sound, make sure you have a tarp and a rain guard.

Rain guard? Is this something separate from the fly?

For example:
Note the tent itself is dark grey and blue; and it has a light grey shell over the top, to keep the rain out. Fly's (flies?) are generally stand-alone. If you have one, that will work too. |
