Who cares what is bigger on the national stage. I've never understood the Ute fanbase and BYU fanbase and their obsession with "national respect."

I want the best team possible in the bowl game. Navy is a better team than UCLA, so I would rather play Navy.

This is where I can't agree with you. Navy doesn't play anybody. I'm not so confident that they are the better team.

Last year BYU had the conference's best bowl matchup, but name one person who is not a BYU fan who can remember who BYU beat in that game? This is such a non-issue. After both Utah and BYU win their bowl games, it will be news for less than half a day, until the next (of the 32) bowl game starts.

Definitely true. But of all the shit, I'll take UCLA or Cal.

Also find one person outside of this rivalry who knows that Utah beat Georgia Tech in the previous year's best MWC bowl match up. Zero. (Well, except Calvin Johnson).

I'm not even sure we get the 1/2 day news.

I don't know if Navy is necessarily a better opponent, but Navy is a logical choice for a bowl game in San Diego. With the naval base there, there will be a decent amount of ticket sales and the unfortunate thing with bowl games is that ticket sales are more important than who is playing.

I care. "National Respect" = better preseason ranking for BYU next year. That's why I care about "National Respect" as it's perceived by the AP voters. If BYU is to get to a BCS bowl game, gaining more national respect is a good idea. Going 11-2 (2 years in a row) sweeping the conference (2 years in a row) and winning their bowl game (2 years in a row) versus nationally respected programs in Oregon and UCLA arguably garners more national respect than beating Tulsa and Navy. I hope BYU destroys UCLA like they did against Oregon last year. We could easily start the season ranked in the Top 25 next season. I think most BYU fans are expecting that if we win on Dec. 22.

That said, I'm fine with our matchup because at this point we have to live with it. I also like the utah/Navy matchup. MoWest has a realistic chance of going 5-0, thus giving our programs more national respect.
