You were unnecessarily harsh, but the thrust of it was correct.

It's hard to persuade people by berating them. A more gentle explanation of why that's offensive might have done you more good.

We joked like this: "He'll see two cute boys enacting Daniel and the Lion's Den, he'll be moved a little, he'll look at you at the moment of his softening, and wa-la: hooked." This had the last thing with trying to convert the two of them. In fact, there is no reason for him to have ever found out we were Mormon if he actually had come over. We don't make it obvious on our walls and coffee tables.
When it comes to Mormonism, SU is a little like Triplet. Don't take him seriously.

And I want her to hook up with the guy b/c she's a friend and I think it would make her happy -- that's my investment. I could not care less whether they fall in love at my house or not. What I care about is the blatant prejudice she entertained and had the "class" to let me in on.
You asked for opinions. That was mine.

Your opinion was based partly on a misconception, which I corrected . . . but I appreciate your opinion nonetheless.

I don't believe you had zero missionary intentions behind the invitation and neither does she.

Agree 100%. I'll get back to you on how my apology works out.

Looking into my heart, you're right. I recognize the desire to open my home not only to provide a jumpstart to their dating, but so that she could experience the home life of a loving Mormon family; not necessarily for conversion sake, but for awareness. Maybe it was the rejection of this desire to display virtuous normalcy that lit my fire.

No comments on Levin's role as the woman's gay friend/advisor?

You probably shouldn't take it so personal, then. She probably felt that underlying motivation and decided it wasn't the best environment for a first date.
