Mrs. FM and I went shopping and out to dinner during the afternoon session and just got home. So I am a slacker.

I found tonight's meeting inspiring. Elder Uchtdorf's talk in particular was very moving.

Why would Pres Eyring say that they went from being missionary farewells to just being talks because of the shear number of missionaries going out? I don't think that was the reason at all. My understanding was that they were getting so over the top that they had to back it off a little. I think most wards are looking for people to talk at sacrament, it's not like these farewells were taking valuable time from people that needed to be talking in church. I found that a little strange.

Things like reception lines outside the chapel, and skipping the rest of church after a farewell have always been discouraged so far as I know.

In '66, my older brother had a special program (my dad said the program list looked more like a state funeral than a sacrament meeting), followed by a reception in the cultural hall with refreshments and farewell gifts. Just a few years later, I was a ten minute Youth Speaker, followed by the regular speakers who had just moved into the ward. I spoke of how happy I was to be going to Austria. Three old ladies came up after, said how much they enjoyed my talk, and commented how lucky I was that I would see some kangaroos. I'm over it though. Sort of. |

No, we are not overwhelmed with the numbers of missionaries going out in these parts. |

This thread is useless. I was hoping for an actual synopsis of priesthood meeting. I was at the SC game so I completely missed it.
I am enjoying being home watching the Dodgers rough up the Cubs en route to the NLDS, though. I love Conference Weekend!

I thought Uchtdorf's and Eyering's talks were very different from each other, and very good in their own way. Every 6 months I ask my son who his favorite speaker was in Priesthood session, and almost every time his answer in Uchtdorf. He reminds me of the Germans who take over the Nuclear plant in the Simpsons and try to act jolly and friendly (and I mean that in a good way).
I don't pay attention to Jay Jensen as a protest for him giving us a lecture at a bus stop while we were in the MTC, but my son liked him. I fell asleep during the last one or two talks before the intermediate hymn, so I can't help you with those. It was a good meeting, but after cursing at the Cubs for the last 3 hours, I think I have lost the Spirit. |
