Mike, why do you think Church leadership positions are so desirable?

Being a bishop merely means you're burdened by every problem in the ward. It means you work an additional 30 or 40 hours a week, unpaid. It means your hair turns gray at age 32.

Ditto for stake president.

There are no perks unless you're a megalomaniac, and if you are, you're the wrong person for the calling.

Are you really fighting for women to deal with all of this?

I'm saying that we are wasting a lot of brain and spirit power by not involving women in decision making that affects our wards/stakes/regions/church.

If you want to know how much influence women have in the church, I suggest you watch General Conference. Out of dozens of speakers, you will hear about two women. The other references to women will all place them on a pedestal and extol them (furthering stereotypes). One of the rare exceptions to this was in this last conference when women were told (by a man) to stop abusing drugs.

Gosh, I wish most of the women who speak in conference wouldn't use the church lady voice.

Or put another way, why isn't the church structure more like the marriage structure?

Some of you will say "BUT IT IS!!!" And that is a sad commentary on your marriages.

If things are truly as you say they are, and women have little to zero influence in the Church, then I am with you in saying that needs to change.

Making them bishops, however, is I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.

There are ways of getting women involved that would not involve declaring them to have the priesthood. I don't believe that women have any less ability to act in the name of God than men. So when I say "priesthood" I think we are referring to outer manifestations and not anything that has to do with the spiritual ability to act.

For example, why couldn't the high council include women?

True. Women can be as boring as men.

actually this reminds me: there was an article about when Mitt R. was stake president, and how the women in his stake revolted and had a number of demands including women selected to speak as quasi-high councilors.

And Mitt acceded to their demands.

If a female Elders Quorum President was attractive it would add a new dynamic to the personal priesthood interview

Why wouldn't God want women to hold the priesthood? I don't think it will happen but just looking for your thoughts.

Because then women would give priesthood blessings and pass the sacrament and all kinds of stuff that only men should do.
