It depends how you define religious. I don't think the Mullahs are righteous, but they are probably very devout.

I can agree here. I have a different view of what is religious and what is righteous.

Agreed. Very few people are truly "religious" under my definition.

For me, introspective and reflective are the two best synonyms for religious.

I think what he's saying is that truly religious people leading a theocracy don't have a problem with limiting others' religious freedom because they know/believe their method of worship is correct. Limiting others' religious freedom or forcing them to convert is really just helping to save them.

As a regular man in a theocracy, you will be opressed religiously, unless your religion coincides with those in charge.

True, what I am saying is my beliefs or root beliefs are more closely tied to the Muslims or religious fundamentalists than say the communists, governement oppression.

On the other hand, government oppression may be easier to break out of eventually.

My question. Let's say two very polarizing groups battle for control of the Country. The Religious Right and the lefty left. Who would you be pulling for to win. Sad choices, but your choices.

I would rather live in a Country run like Iran than one run like France used to be. Reasoning. My religion.

Of course I believe my religion is true, but I don't see Utah in the 1850's run much different than a fundamentalist religious country would be run. Why would I oppose that as opposed to being in a socialist country that could evolve into communism.

Either choice is poor, but is why I would take even the religious right, who I dislike emensely over far left liberals.

I don't see the religious right running this country like Iran. I'd say 99% of the religious right wants America to basically return to the 1950's (minus Jim Crow). Maybe not ideal, but hardly a taliban style mullahcracy. So I'd go with the religious right.

I guess I am the opposite. The reason being, at least in a liveral society, free agency is not quelched and we all remain responsible for teaching our children correct principles and hoping they learn to govern themselves. Oh wait, that's exactly what we have now. What was I thinking? The Gospel is a funny thing. It flourishes in a liberal world, but would disappear altogether in a highly conservative one. I am a conservative that choses to be that way and I prefer it that way!

I'm liberal because if I weren't a conservative then the liberal people that I know in the world might end up being religious and I would be so confused by that.

I think there are some who would if they could. But they can't and they know they'll never be able to, so they'd be happy to go back to the 50s.
