The effect hasn't kicked in completely because there's still some uncertainty. But are you sure it's working? I can't imagine that our exposure has not hurt us in some ways with recruiting. Kids want to be on TV. It's a big deal for them.

National exposure had nothing to do with my choice of school.

USC with any TV contract >>>>>>>> BYU with any TV contract

The TV contract is hardly what separates us from USC.

As Stanely so humorously pointed out in his quote above......media exposure wasnt the sole factor. But it WAS a factor.

I agree that SC football > BYU football, though.

I'll tell you what: when we start losing recruits to Boise State because of our TV contract, then I'll start worrying.

You underestimate the immaturity and the ego of these kids. They are 17 year old high school superstar jocks, and being on TV plays to their ego, and many of them are on the fence about which school to play for.

None of us on this board "know" whether the TV deal hurts recruiting. But I'm willing to bet that coaches from other conferences use it as one reason not to play in the MWC. Whether or not using this card works is anybody's guess.

I do agree with Indy's comment that recruiting seems to be going just fine this year. Ultimately, success in recruiting depends on winning. So does attendance, so do donations, etc...

Not that Smails will ever admit that another viewpoint exists...
