No. It gets entirely too complicated. I pay on my gross income. Reimbursements are just that and is food an increase?

Anyone who pays tithing on expense account reimbursements give me a call. I have some loveley view property on the Bonneville Salt Flats to sell you. I don't believe anyone should pay any tithing, but suspending that belief for a moment, is this really a tough issue?

And either way, he seems to be saying that gross v net is a personal issue, not a Church mandate. Am I missing the humor?

the issue is that for example, last week I had to drive to saginaw and flint (200 miles total or $100 mileage reimbursement). I also got per diems both days I was there even though the people I was visiting expensed lunch each day. so that is another $70.
Wait a minute... is this one of those "since you asked now you have to do it" type thing? Forget I even asked

What I would do in that case is tithe the excess. If you spent only $100 of the $170, give the good boy network their seven dollars.

Before anyone jumps on the "pay on gross" bandwagon, consider that most of the church's membership lives outside the United States (and in nations that frequently have much higher tax rates than the United States). How would you like it if you paid on gross, then got taxed for 85% of your income? Tithing would be a devastating economic blow. Example: You earn $1000. You pay $100 in tithing. You are taxed $850, leaving you with $50. Or, you pay on the net, and owe $15 in tithing. When talking about such small amounts available on net, that extra $85 is a big deal. |
