I don't think Romney can afford to go negative. Doesn't work for him.
Thompson stole the show.

Religion rises inevitably from our apprehension of our own death. To give meaning to meaninglessness is the endless quest of all religion. When death becomes the center of our consciousness, then religion authentically begins. Of all religions that I know, the one that most vehemently and persuasively defies and denies the reality of death is the original Mormonism of the Prophet, Seer and Revelator, Joseph Smith.

Biggest applause of the night: "we need to bring them [the troops] home".
I thought Mitt Romney's comment about Paul reading Achmedinijad's talking points was a cheap shot. It makes Romney look like a dick. I don't support Paul generally on foreign policy, but he makes some decent sense regarding the arab/israeli conflict and loads of sense on domestic issues.

Yeah, that was a low point for Romney. Even said as much by the National Review wonks.

That's why Romney lost Iowa. He comes across as a total a-hole when he goes negative. He just can't pull it off. The guy is just not connecting with people, myself included, which is a shame. Because I WANT to support the guy. He just doesn't have "it".

He doesn't have the twinkle in his eye, like Reagan had. He doesn't have the incisive wit.

But then again, who does?

True enough. Although guys like Bill CLinton, Obama, and Huckabee are at least in the ballpark or at least the ballpark parking lot. Romney isn't even in the same timezone it seems.

Romney, at heart, is a wonk. The equivalent of a political nerd. (Versus the political cool guys like Reagan and Clinton).

He has skills in the range of the Bushes. Which is not good.
