Reminds me of that hilarious scene in "Tommy Boy"...where they are changing channels in the car, and end up singing at the top of their lungs to the Carpenters.

I don't think its cheesy. Karen Carpenter had a truly unique sound. Also, the fact is that Carpenter songs continue to get covered. The BeeGees are sort of similar. Most people react viscerally to the name, but the songs still get played and covered.

It's no secret that my favorite female vocalist is Mary Fahl, especially when she was with October Project.

This song is not the correct video - someone used it to do a Phantom of the Opera video - but even clips from that movie do not take anything away from Mary's voice:
