People that are getting worked up about this black college/prison thing are morons. First, I haven't seen published evidence that he is wrong (I don't count a blog). Second, clearly it IS amazing how many young black men are in prison.

I was referring to the original study where the group of priosners was ALL black men, whereas college would clearly just be those of college age. The study was flawed.

Nobody is saying it's not terrible how many young black men are in prison. In fact, that makes the point that hyperbole such as this is not needed.

So if there are more black men in prison than black men in college, that is a meaningless statement?

What is it for whites? Are there more white men in prison than in college? I doubt it. But who knows.

What about this stat: number of black men convicted and jailed between ages 18 and 23 versus number that graduate from college. I wonder what that is. I bet jailed is higher.

it's a misleading statement because the population one of the groups being compared is drawn from is much larger. And you know this as well / better than I do.

I know perfectly what it means. There are more blacks of all ages in prison than there are blacks of all ages in college.

Assuming that this group actually votes, he already has their vote and there is no need to pander. You are reaching for something to be upset about if you are upset about his blacks in prison/college comment.
