Excuse me for jumping in here, but a slightly off topic question for those with more knowledge than me (which is probably everybody here.) Does anyone know of a duel mode (analog and digital) smart phone/pda? I'm also in the market for an upgrade and living here in the wilds of north-central God's country, where there are still large swaths of area that are analog only, I don't want to limit my coverage.

Thanks.

Arent most PDA's able to operate in analog? I know BB can and I am pretty sure Palm can.

Are you with VZW? They have the best network in terms of build-out on a national scale.

As I said, I know little of this. The last time I got a new phone I might as well have been asking the salesperson for a telegraph setup when I mentioned analog.

I am with Verizon and a quick glance at the pda options in my area seem to be all digital. My concern is those times when I'm out in the middle of "buttfuck" (excuse my french) which is quite often. I was pleasantly surprised to receive a call a week ago out in the field 70+ miles from the nearest town and in one of the white spots on Verizon's map.

And now that I've given you all the gift of "buttfuck" and "quite often" in the same sentence I will be sorely disappointed if you don't use it.

That kind of language is more for guys like Johnny Lingo, not me.

But to your concern, all the PDAs will be digitial, but the question is whether they have the ability to convert to analog when there is no digitial signal. Again, I am pretty sure all of them can. I know BBs can pick up both signals for sure. That is a pretty basic function, nothing special.

Keep in mind that the phone you linked is $400+ full retail. You do not get the discount or rebate without a contract.
There are two versions of the Curve. The Curve released through T-Mobile features Wi-Fi. The Curve available through AT&T has GPS.

I believe the Bold will feature both as well as enhanced media and camera capabilities including video capture and a better camera.

Is that the diff? I knew they relaunched with GPS, but didnt know they did it on only one platform.

If he wants integrated GPS, he can always buy the ATT and unlock it. Although who provides the GPS service? Is it 3rd party or ATT?

I dont use my phone for a GPS, so not sure.

Default I just got this one which I love

http://estore.vzwshop.com/i760/

However, I have since found out that my new employer is on Groupwise and only supports push to Blackberry. So I may have to take this back and settle for a BB. I much prefer Windows Mobile as I have some apps that run on it and do some development for it but I may be stuck with BB.

I assume the GPS is integral to the phone. just like a GPS receiver. The US Govt. provides the GPS signal from their satellites. The phones tells the carrier where you are, or tells the applications where you are (i.e. maps).

As i stated before, BB is launching devices with Windows Mobile this summer. stand pat for a few months. although traditionally, VZW is the last carrier to get the new BB releases.
