You should look into the Elks Club.

I attend Sac Meeting in order to do my part to increase our quarterly budget allowance from the Stake. Also, I like appearing pious in the eyes of my neighbors who see us going to and returning from church.

Religion rises inevitably from our apprehension of our own death. To give meaning to meaninglessness is the endless quest of all religion. When death becomes the center of our consciousness, then religion authentically begins. Of all religions that I know, the one that most vehemently and persuasively defies and denies the reality of death is the original Mormonism of the Prophet, Seer and Revelator, Joseph Smith.

Rarely, does one hear the answer, because I want to see people I know and to take the sacrament. Or tradition.

Am I the only one who expects absolutely nothing from sacrament speakers? I really don't care what they speak of. I don't care too much about their preparation, or if they convey the Spirit. Why? If they are interesting, I might learn something I haven't heard and might not. No matter.

I always have options. I can sleep. I can read something I brought to inform myself or I can entertain a neighboring child.

Anybody else believe the speakers have any obligations to you as a listener?
Opening up my little naive eyes... Thinking back on the past several months in my ward, I really never get much out of speakers in sacrament meeting... part of that probably has to do with the attention I'm giving to them and the Spirit or maybe it's because by the 3rd hour, I've had enough.. I get spiritually uplifted in Elders Quorum when a certain guy teaches because he's a good story teller, the rest ramble through lessons. I should be getting more out of sacrament meeting but I'm not... maybe I should do more of the "simple" things... more focused prayer, studying the scriptures more often, etc.

I recently had a neighbor see me leave for meetings one morning at 6:45am while he was out getting the paper. My cup overfloweth with piety that day.

I've often thought the Sunday School should design and offer a class on giving good talks.

I must admit that one of the best things about LDS culture is that we seem to have no fear of public speaking. Those little kids hit the podium early. Growing up in SLC I didn't realize how unusual this is, but now when I see students, and even some teachers, struggle with public speaking I see an unintended benefit of church activity.

I am very much on board with this idea. Some of the talks people give...you wonder what they were thinking. The worse are the ones that they read straight off of a piece of paper word for word.
