To be serious for one moment, I don't think he cares for the reasons you and I care: rivalry, smack, school pride, etc. But it's certainly possible he could care about the outcome for some other altruistic purpose of his. I suspect that's what BDB is getting at.

In any case, it's all beside the point. Collie didn't say God helped him win the game, nor did he mean it that way. His point was summed up nicely by himself a few days later:

"To tell you that I got here on my own," he said, "and that the Lord hasn't had a hand in my success and our team's success and every other athlete's success in this world, is just B.S. because he's had a hand in every person's life."

The fact that you and your Ute brethren are having seizures over a fairly benign comment betrays the standard Ute "less righteous" complex, aggraved by a second consecutive last-minute rivalry loss.

I don't believe God leaves me on my own at all. Far from that. I have seen him bless me in so many ways. For some reason though, I'm not in the NFL and I was living right. (crap, i didn't even start my high school team and I was the good guy [banging my hands on the piano], I was the good guy)

This is getting old. I said that "it could be argued..." at no point in time have I actually claimed to believe that God has engineered victories for BYU, or any other team. My argument is simply that I don't believe it's out of the realm of possibility.

God didn't make me an athlete, a genius, a millionaire, a musician, a super model, an artist, or even a chef...so I guess that means that anyone that is one of the above can't attribute any of their ability and success to God, because I'm righteous and I didn't get the exact same blessings.

God is fickle and temperamental. One minute he's on your side, then he deserts you, for no apparent reason. Personally, I think he waited too long to stop Hitler; I mean, 40 million corpses is too many for my taste. But hey, it's his sand box.
