I think gay pride parades as they've been done have overall been poor PR for the gay rights movement.

I view them as any other parade......boring and pointless. The one thing about Gay Pride parades that troubles me is that from a political standpoint, if the homosexual community is serious about rehabbing its image to the general public, much of the behavior at these parades needs to focus on more positive aspects of the culture, as opposed to the blatant defiance of social mores that is often displayed. I was uncomfortable with much of what I saw, but I would be equally uncomfortable if similar behavior was being exhibited in a heterosexual parade. The reason I referenced the Gay Pride parade in my post above was to point out that my friends don't really fall into the traditional gay stereotype...flamboyant, activist, etc....here is another shocker....neither one is a particularly snappy dresser. Yikes.

The one gay guy I have ever known and have considered a friend didn't have the most impressive wardrobe or fashion sense either. It pissed me off. I even told him once "Here I am, a hick mormon boy from Utah hanging out with a gay dude who can't even give me advice on how to dress. Remind me why we're friends". |

I could certainly live with this matter remaining a state's rights issue. As it currently stands, I see it as an ideal solution. I do warn you from getting too smug about the progressivism of your fellow Washingtonians. Your state passed DOMA legislation in 1998 and it has been upheld by the WA Supreme Court. |
