I'm willing to bet he does not. He is an intern.

But eventually he will make some $, because he is going into radiology.

Psychiatry, on the other hand, is pure poverty.

In certain cases Doctors have some reason to bitch and moan...especially in the states where the Malpractice situation is beyond any means of rational control or regulation.

But for the most part they make a very good living. If they aren't then it's because they're crappy with their money.

So that's what you keep muttering to your self while we are visiting ... it's interesting that the VERY first thing we do when planning a trip to the states is buy travel insurance, on top of the travel insurance I already have through work because an unexpected visit to a hospital in the states would bankrupt us!

It's easy to see why a doctor in India or Nigeria would want to practice in the USA.

It's not as easy to see why a doctor from England or Canada would want to, given that they have to repeat a residency in the USA.

I've recently known one doc from the UK. I think I met one from Canada many years ago, but don't remember any details.

Because he probably saw 100 other people that day with stomach aches and just wanted to go home.
In France I only went to the best trained specialists. Infact they behaved similarly as the doctors did when I took YOU to the ER in SLC while Mom and Dad were out of town and I was left in charge to look after little Red Death.

I was 16 and had to insist they consider your appendix -or don't you remember because you were in too much pain?

It's been a big issue here for a while and only in recent years has been addressed. Canadian trained doctors education is subsidized, and they leave school with significantly less debt than American counterparts. An HMO comes calling promising big American bucks and sun and fun for general practitioners because most all Americans specialize.

Young doctors were crossing the boarder at alarming rates while the Candian $ was worth 65 cents. Now that doctors must pay back some of the subsidies if they leave and the Canadian $ is on par fewer leave.

Not in Vegas.

I've had several do very, very, very well here. Of course, they are prescription writing maniacs, but coupled with their psychologists on staff and addiction management, and they drive luxury cars and fly nice planes. You need an entrepreneurial spirit, but they are well to do.
