If you put my $35 per year against a friend that it is a dowtown worker in DC, the difference is at least 15x.

Dallas has a light rail system. Danimal rode it every day to work.

Yes, I don't dispute that, and good for you. But now Marsupial has noted that yours is a "light" rail system. When is Dallas going to grow up and get a hardened underground metrorail system?

No wonder the Cowgirls lost to the Giants yesterday.

Texas homes, for example, don't generally have basements. I think it is a water table issue. You won't see any rails underground, unless you want them to be underwater rail.

Washington and New York actually have trains running under the Potomac and Hudson rivers. Of course, being Texas, you will want to bring in the "Chunnel" engineers.

GOod point. BART runs under the SF Bay and in SF itself you have the Muni light rail and Bart in a two story underground configuration. TX doens't use underground becasue everybody wants to drive their pick-em up trucks.

CA homes don't have basments, usually, either. Popular wisdom usually says somehting about ground water. This is not true. Tlak to a contractor or, better, a large developer and they will tell you the reason they don't have them is beacseu they cut into margins and they don't need them to sell homes becasue people don't expect them. My guess is this is true in TX as well.

In Dallas and Houston, rail and bus are considered transportation for the poor. The culture is different.

When I get on the bus, I am often the only non-black person on the bus.

So, you will see some resistance from the rich white folks towards expanding and improving public transportation. $4/gal gas might change that however.

Don't bring in the "Big Dig" engineers. The thing is leaking like a little baby. I keep waiting for them to blame it on Mitt.

Interesting post about combining wards and tearing down a chapel in the SLC area. What is the real reason for the decline of members in the SLC area?
move to the burbs because of parks, unless you consider Liberty Park a family friendly park. And there is more parking in the burbs. Plus you can buy more for less in the burbs. Pretty simple and basic.

Actually I'm talking about that engineering marvel making it possible to travel by rail from London to Paris in under two hours.
