Grape, you are the poster child for those who believe nepotism and the "pioneer birthright" is alive and well in the Church.

I found out the one of the bishopric counselors in my ward is related to Mitt Romney and that whole clan.
I am now viewing his call as nothing more than favoritism and nepotism because of his Mexican colony connection! |

I'm hoping it's President Packer.
The ensuing meltdown thread here at CG would be highly entertaining. |

Do you really think there would be a melt down. What difference would it make whether it was President Packer, Bednar, Holland, etc. It wouldn't make any difference in my life I know. I wouldn't take it as a sign that God was going very, very conservative on us and the football program was in jeopardy of being done away with. Look at the talk about why it would be he or someone else. Most of it is age or embarassment at not being picked. I haven't seen any discussion about what each would bring to the table as far as benefits go. I think someone other than Packer might show the world we aren't quite as stuffy as they might think, on the other hand, if it is the right thing to do, who cares what the world thinks. |

before I read the McKay biography I had little idea that being in the FP instead of just the QofA meant anything at all.
While now I recognize it does mean a little, but not much in terms of how it affects members everyday. |

If Packer is selected to be in TFP, I don't think you'll see a meltdown. You may see a few posts that hope he'll mellow a bit.

I can honestly say it makes zero difference to me who the replacement is. I am equally fine with any of the 12 choices.

Someone doesn't have to have been an Apostle or in the Quorum of the Twelve to be called into the First Presidency. It hasn't happened often since traditions were established, but it has happened.

Maybe so, but I'm considering that to be a given in this instance.
