Since Obama taught Constitutional Law at the U of Chicago for 12 years, I think he'd do OK at this one.

I hated civil procedure in law school. I didn't like studying it for the bar exam. I candidly didn't completely grasp the big picture of it until I was in practice about two months, at which point I thought: "what was so hard about that? It makes perfect sense now." Evidence is the same way. It isn't something you are going to grasp very well until you start doing it. Then it becomes second nature.

I'm starting to think we've all been had. Here's apparently the transcript of her latest with Couric:

Quote:
Couric: And when it comes to establishing your world view, I was curious, what newspapers and magazines did you regularly read before you were tapped for this to stay informed and to understand the world?

Palin: I've read most of them, again with a great appreciation for the press, for the media.

Couric: What, specifically?

Palin: Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me all these years.

Couric: Can you name a few?

Palin: I have a vast variety of sources where we get our news, too. Alaska isn't a foreign country, where it's kind of suggested, "wow, how could you keep in touch with what the rest of Washington, D.C., may be thinking when you live up there in Alaska?" Believe me, Alaska is like a microcosm of America.
She obviously toying with Couric, and Couric knows it but can't resist. Headline on CBS: "Palin doesn't even read!"

I'm going to go out on a limb and say this "Supreme Court cases" bit is similar.

good call. rather than answering a simple question directly, Palin shrewdly decides to toy with her interview and not answer.....even though she knows that the much of the country right now views her as an uncultured idiot.

Once again, Sarah Palin playing the media like a virtuoso.

"Much of the country" = "elitist lawyers in LA".

I think she's refusing to play Couric's quiz show:

1. Name 5 Supreme Court cases. You've got 30 seconds ... go!
2. Name 5 publications you read. Ready ... go!

I am agreeing with you. I think it is a shrewd, deliberate strategy that came into her mind almost instantaneously during the Couric interview. She was very calculating in her refusal to answer. No doubt that in a nanosecond, she thought through all the possible answers and wisely decided that public sentiment and pollsters would be in her corner if she failed to answer the question.

This new strategy....answering some questions unintelligently and then refusing to answer others altogether.....I think Sarah is onto something good here.

I think you said it best. Sarah was "toying" with Couric. And that clip really proves it. You just felt awful for Couric, sitting in that chair, helpless against Palin's machinations.

I doubt anyone will want to interview Sarah Palin anymore for fear of looking really dumb. Nobody wants to be toyed with, after all.

It must be a rule among lawyers that you cannot simultaneously attempt humor and brevity.

Yeah boy, that question number 2 would be a tough one. I would hate to be put on the spot like that.

dragging it out simply emphasizes the silliness of your position.

it is kind of like when you punch a guy in the face, but then when he is down on the ground you also kick him a bunch of times, spit on him, and also grab a fistful of his hair, lift his head up, and then look him in the face and tell him that if he ever does that again, that you will kill him the next time.

that sort of thing.

You might, if you knew that your answer would be dissected by a thousand pundits for its implications.

I'm not saying, by the way, that I particularly like how she's handled it. Dealing with a hostile media is part of the job, particularly if you're a Republican, and she needs to learn how to handle it.

But I no longer believe the report that she couldn't name another Supreme Court case, anymore than I believe she doesn't read.
