It's not like I have been turning in a lot of receipts. Patches for the boys. Deposit for summer camp.

Of my expenditures for YM, I imagine I am refunded about 5%-10%.

You made me snort caffeine free diet Coke all over my white shirt (I wear them to work sometimes, just not church). Thanks a lot pal.

Maybe I will move to the ward in Plano that raised $10k for their troop.

I also told them that I was not willing to do fundraisers. As scoutmaster, I was already giving the max allotment of time I could allow and still attend to my family. If they couldn't come up with the funds I needed, they could get the scout committee to raise the money or get a new scoutmaster.

Yes, my ward is wealthier than yours, but the point is that it pays to establish budgets and expectations well in advance. That gives the leaders an opportunity to allocate and prioritize resources.
btw, I should mention that the last 2 scoutmasters quit, and they had a 7 month gap with no scoutmaster.

I'm the sucker.

I wonder if that thought crossed Jesus' mind as he hung there on the cross. He was human after all.

Religion rises inevitably from our apprehension of our own death. To give meaning to meaninglessness is the endless quest of all religion. When death becomes the center of our consciousness, then religion authentically begins. Of all religions that I know, the one that most vehemently and persuasively defies and denies the reality of death is the original Mormonism of the Prophet, Seer and Revelator, Joseph Smith.

I'm disappointed that no one has claimed that they probably give more time to the church, away from their families than me. I'd hate to think that I am the pinnacle of sacrifice around here.

I don't think you are. The nadir of humility, perhaps.

I was released two days ago as YM president after serving 14.5 straight years in YM/Scouting. Cry me a river.

It's not a competition. I'm happy if someone has.

I think it actually might be easier to be first counselor in the bishopric than it is to be a scoutmaster in terms of time.
