Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!! Religion rises inevitably from our apprehension of our own death. To give meaning to meaninglessness is the endless quest of all religion. When death becomes the center of our consciousness, then religion authentically begins. Of all religions that I know, the one that most vehemently and persuasively defies and denies the reality of death is the original Mormonism of the Prophet, Seer and Revelator, Joseph Smith. |

Don't tell ERCougar this, though. He believes in the history of mankind no single person has ever had flood insurance without HO insurance. |

I didn't say homeowners covers floods. It doesn't. And that's the problem in Katrina. Most people got homeowners because it's required for a mortgage. They decided to roll the dice on flood coverage and are pissed because they lost. Somehow they've hoodwinked you into blaming their insurer for not covering them for something they didn't pay for. Do you provide legal services to people who don't pay you? |

Anyone who has spent any time at all dealing with insurance companies knows that this is their modus operandi, particularly in poorer neighborhoods where it is easier to get away with. As a doctor, you should be familiar with such instances and shouldn't be as dismissive. So you know, approximately 67% of people in New Orleans carried flood insurance according to an article in the Times Picayune (citing federal statistics). http://www.vendomeplace.org/press031...insurance.html That is far higher than the percentage who own flood insurance in the Midwest. So again, where is the outrage for the Midwest that existed in Louisiana? I forgot- those Midwesterners are just so darn polite. |

Not only that, but earthquake insurance typically does not cover masonry damage, which is the most common type of damage.

And not only that, but each of the insurance policies we have discussed have limits on what they pay out. Insruance is a step, but even those who have insurance and did everything right frequently find that they are screwed in the end.
