Default Tonight was a great night for the Democrats

The GOP has veered rightward, and thus have dimmed their future longterm prospects, despite these shortterm gains.

Umm, yeah. GOP will be happy to keep up these short term gains for a few more election cycles, picking up 2/3rds of the independent voters.

Obama may have to finally realize that he doesn't have a blank check to enact his socialist liberal agenda.

Oh, don't forget the other democratic talking point: it's a tough year for ALL incumbents, due to the mess that was inherited from George Bush.

If all incumbents in Congress flip to the other party, I don't really see that as a win for the Democrats. But I'm not an expert in math, so what do I know.

Democrats must think voters are total idiots. They win in 06 and 08 in great measure by criticizing (rightly) the GOP's reckless spending and faux conservatism. Then they govern as if they were given a mandate to turn the U.S. into some sort of banana republic. Did they think no one would notice? Tonight's elections gave me hope that voters, while momentarily drunk on the Obama kool-aid, haven't completely shut their brains off.

The most encouraging news of the night was that the NJ spread was so wide, the Democrats couldn't steal it with dead voters, tricky lawyers, and questionable vote recount techniques. Kudos to the Republicans for keeping it outside the margin of cheating.
