Default A Clockwork Orange

There a bunch of times I've almost rented this and then I chicken out everytime.

I hear that unless you don't want to feel upset, gross and disturbed afterwards to stay far away from it.

Am I just a chicken? Are the fears unfounded or is the movie really as messed up as most tell me it is.

For those who've seen it,,,what are your opinions on this movie?

You could handle it. It's dated but I found it interesting at the time.

It is a great movie. One of my faves in the Sci-Fi category.

Kubrick's imagery is masterful.

I keep forgetting that many have not seen this movie, which is why I get so few responses when I post references to ultraviolence, milk bars, droogs, and the old in-out-in-out.

So in other words it's not as disturbing as most say it is?

The movie is definitely disturbing, but it does look dated.

By the way, I like the movie a lot but the book is a ton better. I suggest reading the book first.

The book is better, yes.

As for "disturbing," I dont know. I found the themes to be dark, but interesting. Alex's descent from violence/sex/anarchy to institutional compliance is pretty interesting.

There are some scenes that are somewhat graphic, but by today's standard, pretty tame.

1. Beating up a homeless guy with clubs.
2. Breaking into a house and raping a woman while singing "Singing in the Rain"
3. Being brainwashed to abhor violent behavior

A lot of it may seem like mishmash to you because the chracters speak "Droogspeak," which sounds almost like a drug-influenced Russian dialect. They hang out a milk bar and drink drug-laced warm milk. They also wear bowler hats and white diapers.

Check it out. But not one for the kids, no.
