The obvious reasons are still obvious. Media exposure. More money.
But another possibly overlooked reason is that this is a way that BYU can prove to the Big 12 that they have the market pull to be a worthy addition. Open the books, show the cash, and say "look, we are not another mouth to feed, we bring something to the table." They may fear that remaining in the MWC, on the Mtn, they will never have the ability to prove that. A leap of faith. |

According to ESPN, part of BYU's negotiations to be part of the WAC for non-football sports includes an agreement that BYU will play 4-6 football games per year against WAC schools.
Better hope that the other 6-8 opponents are decent quality. |
