Default Review of Big Love on HBO

I purposefully didn't cancel HBO, just so I could see this series.

I'm trying to remember if I knew of any polygamist families trying to pass themselves off as normal while I was growing up.

Can't think of any, so they probably did a good job.

The only family I know was polygamist was decidedly the Utah Fundamentalist Polygamist And All Our Women Wear Dresses type. Pretty easy to spot them. Kept to themselves, mostly.

One of my best friends growing up in Oregon was of Allred lineage. They were/are a crazy polygamist offshoot in Utah. His grandfather was the only one in the family that stayed with the LDS church and didn't do the polygamy thing. Sometimes in the summer his cousins would come to visit. They always seemed pretty normal, but I remember feeling really sorry for the girls. Thinking that they'd be married to some perv by the time they were 17.

Just up the street from my parents house is a polygamist family. It was kind of the neighborhood secret. I didnt know about till I was 17. I just always thought there were a lot cars and people over there a lot of the time. This is South Salt lake.

Here is another article on the HBO series:

Pretty interesting discussion. I am starting to wonder if I should sign up for HBO to check it out.

It doesn't interest me in the least. It has nothing to do with how they might treat the Church either. It's just that I've subscribed to HBO a couple of times and their programming is crap.

Curb your enthusiasm, good.

Ali G show. mildy good in an immature way.

sopranos. didn't watch last season, but enjoyed the other episodes.

otherwise, I think HBO is pretty much a waste of money. Ali G show is definitely not worth getting hbo for.

there was a poly family in my highschool, the ones i knew were really cool. they were all really into new wave stuff and dressed the part. Odd not seeing them in the usual attire. they actually lived in my stake, in two houses. the dad would take a week at each house.

I'm anxious to see the show.
Regards,
Brian
